We control the entire supply chain of our high-quality paperband and paper tape products, from sustainably forested fibre through to final quality assurance. Every inch of roll and coil is measured to ensure the final product meets our stringent quality standards for performance in our customers’ TUSA devices and in OEM turn-up machines. The final strength of the paperband or paper strapping ensures reliable performance in our own and OEM turn-up machines.
Full Supply Chain Control — From Sustainably Sourced Fibre to Quality Assurance
Monarch paperband is made from 100% Northern Virgin Softwood Fibre, selected for maximum strength and stiffness and the highest turn-up success rates. Controlling the chain from fibre to finished coil is what lets us hold the tolerances below, coil after coil.
Paperband Grades & Specifications
Three grades cover the range of mill conditions, all 0.747″ (19mm) wide with elongation under 2%.
- Extra-Strength (ES): 0.049″ / 1.25mm caliper, 350 lbs tensile strength, repulpability above 110°F
- Extra-Density (XD): 0.049″ / 1.25mm caliper, 335 lbs tensile strength, repulpability above 35°F
- Super-Markless (SM): 0.035″ / 0.89mm caliper, 287 lbs tensile strength, repulpability above 110°F
Available in Brown / Natural (B) and White / Bleached (W).
Level-Wound and Uniband Packaging
Standard level-wound paperband ships as SKUs such as 2201BESP-1 and 2201WESP-1 at approximately 1,750 ft (533m) per coil, one coil per box, 36 boxes per pallet. Uniband ships as U2201BESP-1, U2201WESP-1, U2201WXDP-1 and U2201WSMP-1 at 600 ft (183m) per reel, seven reels per box, 4,200 ft (1,280m) per box, 20 boxes per pallet. Store paperband in a dry place between 68°F and 75°F (20-24°C); optimal storage is 70°F (21°C) at 50% relative humidity.
PSAT Pressure-Sensitive Adhesive Tape for Reel Change
Monarch’s PSAT tape is selected to perform across a variety of mill conditions and adheres to both metal and fibre spools. The repulpable grades — our most popular — can be removed from metal spools with warm clear water. Hi-Tac adhesives work on any spool size and in cool weather. A range of colors aids visual confirmation so missed turn-ups are caught.
Each roll carries 1,000″ (2,540cm) of tape, enough for around 200 turn-ups under typical conditions, measuring 0.48″ (10.8mm) wide and 3″ (76mm) in diameter on a 1″ (25.4mm) core. Tape is individually sealed in plastic and sold 36 rolls per box. Store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight at 70-75°F (20-25°C), 45-55% RH.
Choosing a PSAT Grade
Four SKUs cover most splicing requirements: PSAT Clear Repulpable (acrylic, 3 mil caliper without liner, tissue carrier, kraft paper liner, 350°F), PSAT Colored Repulpable (same construction, 350°F), PSAT Clear Non-Repulpable (3.9 mil, #53 paper liner, 386°F) and PSAT Colored Non-Repulpable (3.4 mil, polyester carrier, #53 paper liner). Typical applications are sheeter splicing, core starting and roll finishing across coated, uncoated, specialty, carbonless, newsprint, linerboard and publishing grades.

What is paperband and how is it used in reel turn-up machines?

Will Monarch’s paperband work in non-TUSA (OEM) turn-up machines?
Yes. Monarch’s paperband and paper strapping products are engineered to perform reliably in both our TUSA systems and OEM reel turn-up machines from other manufacturers.
Which paperband grade should I use?
Extra-Strength is the general-purpose grade at 350 lbs tensile. Extra-Density gives 335 lbs with repulpability from 35°F for cooler conditions. Super-Markless is the thinnest at 0.035″ and 287 lbs where marking of the sheet is a concern.
Is Monarch’s splicing tape repulpable?
Both repulpable and non-repulpable PSAT grades are available. Repulpable grades release from metal spools with warm clear water.
